Papercrafting Easter – Six Ways To Use An Easter Egg Stamp

Can you believe Easter is right around the corner already?

It’s time to start getting busy with our Easter crafts!

I have another really easy embellishment you can make and add to a multitude of projects, b
ut first, I have a little story to tell you about how this idea popped in my head.

One of the awesome benefits of  Stephanie & I living close to one another is that we are able to get together for tea, lunch or dinner to talk about ideas for PaperCrafter’s Corner.

During our last meeting, Stephanie took me to the cutest little stamp shop about 45 minutes north of where we live (stay tuned for a ‘Field Trip Fridays’ report from Steph!).

I hadn’t previously heard of this place so I was excited about checking it out.

When we got there, I was taken aback by ALL of the stamps that were offered in this little shop. They had stamps from the ceiling to the floor, not to mention other items like ink pads, ribbon by the yard, papercrafting tools, a small selection of scrapbook paper, embellishments, and so much more. I was amazed how much the owner of this shop could fit into this little building and still keep it from looking cluttered. I might need to hire her to come and help me organize my home, LOL!!!

Within moments of entering the store, I knew I’d find stamps that I just couldn’t find at the big box stores, stamps that I have to search for online, stamps that I never even knew existed.

After about 10 minutes of looking at all of the awesomeness with Stephanie, we soon separated and started looking in different directions. Stephanie worked her way over to the owner of the shop (that is a bonus of going to locally owned shops, the owner is almost always there and accessible) and I found a fairly large display of stamps by a company I’d never heard of, Texana Designs (another bonus, local businesses can support local businesses by offering co-marketing opportunities!).

As I was looking at the Texana Designs stamps, a lady grabbed me and asked if I wanted to do a make-and-take. Well of course I jumped at the chance to go sit and play!

Obviously, I had been previously distracted by all the stamps on display because I didn’t even notice there was a side room in which women were gathered, having fun creating. And now I was joining in!

The lady who had grabbed me then introduced herself to me – she’s Jimmye Sue Mitchell, the owner of Texana Designs.

How cool is that?

The company’s owner and a design team member were at the store, sharing their new line of Spring stamps with us, something that’d likely never happen at our local big-box stores.

See, just one more reason it’s so important to support your local papercrafting stores!

There were two make-and-takes and you know I made both.

Ready to see what I made?

Aren’t these cute projects?

All sorts of ideas starting popping into my head as I was making these, but that is for a different post.

As I was wrapping up my make-and-take creating, Stephanie walked into the room – she was wondering where I had run off to! LOL

Don’t worry Stephanie, my husband loses me all the time in stores and at events where there are hands-on activities – I just can’t help myself, I have to try everything!

As I was showing Stephanie the cards I made, we started working our way over to the display where ALL of the Texana Designs stamps are displayed. Stephanie quickly found a stamp she wanted to purchase, a stamp of an egg that’s cracked open.

What attracted her to the stamp? Just above where it was hanging was an example of how you could Zentangle the inside of this stamped image and it looked like a beautifully decorated Easter egg. Steph was sold!

That’s when the ideas for all that you could do with an uncracked egg stamp started flooding my creative brain!

And guess what? Texana Designs makes that stamp too!!!

I immediately thought to myself, “Oh, I HAVE to buy this stamp and share some ideas with the PCC community!!”

And here it is!

The ideas I’m sharing with you below can easily be created using either stamp – in fact, the following techniques can be done with ANY open-design stamp.

The first thing you’ll need to do is go through your stash of papers.

I went through my box of scrap papers and pulled out Gelli prints, scrapbook paper, watercolor paper, cool packaging papers from products I’ve purchased (yeah, I save those things too!), solid-colored paper and patterned paper – basically, any paper that I thought would look good as an Easter egg.

Then, I stamped away!

TIP: Use all of your ink colors – you don’t have to stick with just black ink for this step.

So, ready to see my ideas for using an open-design stamp?

Here we go….

Idea #1: Stamp Papers With Egg (or Other Open) Images

After stamping the egg (or other open) image on your chosen papers, cut the images out.

That’s it, DONE!

With a fun collection of papers, that may be all you need to do. Beautiful papers can stand on their own, with no need for further embellishment.

Idea #2: Doodle or Zentangle Your Heart Out!

You can use any of your favorite pens or markers – black & white pens, metallic pens, colored ink pens, glitter pens – to draw designs on the cut eggs or other stamped items.

It’s hard to see in this image, but I traced the patterned paper design on the orange egg with my gold metallic pen and filled in the leaves and flowers with my glitter pens.

TIP: Do all of your doodling or Zentangling before cutting out the images. Why? The extra paper around the stamped image gives you something to hold so your fingers don’t get in the way or smear your design.

Idea #3: Use Other Stamps to Stamp Additional Images or Designs

Use your other stamps to add images or designs onto your eggs (or onto your open-image designs).

You can use single images, background designs or a variety of stamps to create a unique look.

TIP: Again, it’s likely easier to do all of your stamping before cutting out your stamped items.

Idea #4: Combine Techniques

How about combining techniques?

On these eggs I stamped single images and background images and did some doodling.

Then, I added sparkle with my glitter pens, Stickles and Dimensional Pearls.

Lastly, I added a sticker – the “B” – to one of the eggs.

Idea #5: Emboss Your Eggs

I stamped on these eggs using stamps and VersaMagic ink, and doodled on them with an embossing pen.

I then quickly sprinkled embossing powder over each egg (while the ink was still wet) and heated each one with a heat gun to set the embossing powder.

Voila!

Again, doing all of this before cutting the image out helps this process go more smoothly.

Idea #6: Crack Your Eggs & Add Character!

Let’s crack this egg!!!

I didn’t purchase the ‘cracked egg’ stamp Steph purchased, but I still wanted to play with that look.

Here are two different ways that you can create a cracked egg with any uncracked egg image stamp.

Style #1

Papercrafting Easter: Easter Egg Stamp Versatility - Creating A "Cracked Egg" From A Whole Egg, Version I (image)

1. Stamp your uncracked egg image onto your chosen paper.
2. Draw a zig-zag line, horizontally, across the stamped egg image.
3. Cut out the egg and cut on the zig-zag line to split the cut out egg in two.
4. And to finish, place a cute character (like the bunny I used) inside the egg – super easy and cute project embellishment, right?!

Style #2

1. Stamp your uncracked egg image onto your chosen paper.
2. Draw a zig-zag line, horizontally, across the stamped egg image.
3. Cut out the egg and cut on the zig-zag line to split the cut out egg in two.
4. Draw a second zig-zag line, in a slight downward curve, across the egg, just under the first zig-zag line.
5. Color in the space between the two lines with a marker (note: the marker color needs to be a different color than your paper so this area stands out) .
6. Using an X-Acto knife, carefully cut a slit in your
egg along the second zig-zag line you drew (see picture above to see where you want to be cutting).
7. And to finish, again place a cute character (like the bunny I used) inside the egg – super easy and cute project embellishment for your project!

Well, that’s it,
